If you want to become an enviromentalist what college is the best and what exactly does an enviormentalist do?

I’m hoping to become an enviromentalist when I grow up become I love the enviroment. I’m wondering what fields I have to take in college for that and what happens after I graduate college. What degree would I have in? I know there are lots of questions, but it would be great if somebody knew the answer to a few of them. Please, no dictionary definition. I would prefer somebody who was or is an enviromentalist. Thank you.

There are lots of things you can do on behalf of the environment. To become an environmental scientist, you will need to have a good foundation in subjects like biology, zoology, botany, climatology, chemistry, geology, oceanography, anthropology, agriculture, or medicine. To become an environmental engineer, you need to study civil engineering, urban planning, maybe even architecture. If you want to become an environmental lawyer, in addition to law you might study political science, history, or economics. If you want to write about the environment, you might go into journalism, English, or mass communication/media studies. If you study any of these subjects you can eventually find yourself doing environmental work.

Just a quick comment… being an “environmentalIST” doesn’t require a degree, or in fact knowledge of the environment in some cases. My guess is that you want to be an enviornmental SCIENTIST. EnvironmentalISTS are basically activists who spend their time advocating for the environment, usually unpaid but not always.

The first response you got was great and deserves “best answer” status.

check out colleges that offer an environmental science program. It is a great field to work in with all the earth problems we have going on. you could work for a private company and even get a great job with the government. I would talk to an academic advisor at the colleges you are interested in. go to college board, check out some colleges and see if they have that major then request some info.
