Well if you want to be an Interior DECORATOR you don’t need any college, but an interior design degree trains you for much more than just picking out shades and pillows. A full in-depth program like the one at UF in Gainesville (which after alot of searching I found to be the top in the country) you don’t spend a whole lot of time decorating, the curriculum is focused more on everything except the buildings exterior. Meaning HVAC lines, plumbing and electrical, where the walls, stairs, the rooms themselves go.
The profession doesnt get all the respect it deserves though, as too many people look at interior designers and decorators the same. The people you see on HGTV are usually decorators, the people that gut historic buildings and design the entire interior space, right down to the new wiring and plumbing are designers.
So before you spend 6 years (4 in college, it has to be declared your freshman year as it is a true four year program with consecutive requirements every semester, and two in internships before you can apply for liscensing) make sure this is what you want and you can make a career that can pay off $60,000 in student loans.
