If I’m getting a 2nd Undergraduate degree, is there any financial aid available?
I got BA in Communications in 2002. However, Fall 2008, I would like to go back and get a BA in Zoology. Is there any grants, fellowships, aid, etc available? Or am I screwed since I already have an undergrad?
PS should I go for a Masters in Zoology instead?

from my understanding you cannot receive government aid (grants) if your striving for your second bachelors’ degree.
if you decide to go back for your master’s in zoology …i don’t know that you can if you don’t have a bachelors’ degree in that field. that degree may require you to have a bachelors first in zoology and since you currently hold a BA in communications i don’t believe that receiving your masters’ in zoology is yet possible. your not entirely screwed you need to try for scholarships and apply loans.

I doubt you would be able to go for the masters without an undergrad background in biology or zoology. You can check with individual graduate programs. Some may allow you to be accepted into their program dependent on you taking some undergrad prerequisites at their university. For financial aid I think once you’re over 24 you’re not considered a dependent anymore, so financial aid should be available. And there are always loans. I would simply apply and then sort out the finances with the universities you are accepted in. They will be able to give you better answers.

You can still receive loans and private scholarships, but the government won’t give you any money. There is a specific question on the FAFSA that asks you if you hold a 4 year degree. If you could get into a Masters program you would qualify for funding because you are getting a more advanced degree.
