If I already have a general / liberal arts BA, what are the steps I need to take to become a nurse?

Thank you!

You still have to take your nursing curriculum, which is 2 full years. There are two ways you can go about it–either apply to the nursing department of a 4yr. college and proceed to get a BSN, or apply to a Community college and get your ASN.

All you really need to be a RN is a two year Associate’s degree, which you can get from a Community College, and then you can take the NCLEX licensing exam. In general, Community Colleges have just as high pass rates on the exam as 4 yr. colleges, and in many cases, better. Whether you get an ASN or BSN, the nursing courses are pretty much the same, the difference is the 2 yrs of liberal arts courses that you take for the BSN, and you already have those. It would not be hard for you to get a BS, and since it opens up doors to management, that’s the best way to go. Good luck.

your BA is pretty much useless at this point. However, you can use it to fulfill your english and other requirements of your nursing degree.

I’ve never understood why a person would ever get a bachelors degree in absolutely nothing. What was your motivation?
