if a professor says a textbook is optional, is it better to get it or not?

Will they use it in class if its optional?

Will i need it?

Or should i just save my money and not buy it?

I would just wait, and then if you think you need it go buy it then. I had a lot of professors who’d say a book was required and then we’d use it once. I wasted so much money on useless textbooks like this in college! Plus, if you only need the book occasionally, you could ask to make copies of the pages from a classmate. A lot of times teachers just use handouts or post it online in situations like this.

yes buying text book is optional….if u don’t like to stick in the library for long time then its better if u buy the book, but it will indeed cost a fortune…u see there are a lot of textbook available for each subject…sometimes the book that your professor recommends may not be the best reference…you got to find some other source too….if you opt to buy the book for yourself, make sure the book is really useful and you will make full use of it…sometimes i one book the info will be more detailed than the other and vise verca

if money is an issue (and how could it not be) then its not necessary. sometimes they just tell you about additional reading that is optional in that text. it will help in the overall understanding of the subject, but if your like me the regular textbooks only get read where they have to be read.

It usually helps …

however, I’m so cheap I wouldn’t get it, I’d just bum it off someone lol or get photo copies of it from the library! Mainly b/c it clearly states it’s “optional”. (then again I do this with regular books too LOL)

optional means you wont be required to read from it, but to read it for yourself usually helps you understand the main book/material more.

You may not need it, but I always got them, when I was in college, if there was any chance I’d be able to read them (time-wise). The more you read about the subject, the better you can participate in class, and the better you can do on essays and tests!

I would advise you to get it and put it to use because it will be credible at the end of the year when you done with it nd it will be useful as a guide when things get hectic in higher grade stuff.
