Puerto Rico’s country constitution was signed on July 25,1952. Puerto Rico is not a fully independent country yet, it is a self governing country in a free association with the US since 1952.

They have never been independent. They were a Spanish colony until the Spanish American war and were ceded to the US as part of the peace agreement.
