I would like to type subscripts, degrees,sqrt symbol,exponents, and other math symbols. How is this possible ?

Besides Insert/Symbol, you can try Toolbar Options/Add and Remove Buttons/Formatting/ Superscript or Subscript, all left clicks

The world is yours. If you can’t find it in there, you don’t need it. 😉
