I was wondering what the average salary was for a student with a qualification in civil engineering?
I have an ordinary degree (diploma) in civil engineering at the moment, and was wondering what the sart off salary would be for me, and likewise the start off salary for a person with a honors degree.

There is not going to be a salary different between someone who graduates with honors and someone who doesn’t. Graduating with honors may give the person an edge in getting a job–in other words, an employer might decide that this person would be better to hire than someone with a lower GPA–but it won’t affect salary. The employer sets the salary based on the budget for the position, not the applicant–a certain job has a certain budget, and while there may be some wiggle room depending on experience or other qualifications, grades is not one of them.
Your salary will depend on the industry and your location. Private engineering firms will most likely pay more than the government, and larger, more prestigious firms in large cities will pay more than a small firm in a more rural area. There are lots of websites that give salary information–try a couple of the following:
www.monster.com
www.jobweb.com
www.payscale.com

In the US with certification I’d expect you might start in the $40,000 range.
