I took SATs 30 years ago. How/where can I get the records of those scores for my present college application?

I’m applying to college and need my SAT scores. I don’t know what dates I took them. (I’m not even sure of the year.) How can I get the information that the college needs so that I can complete the application?

Thanks.

Your scores should be on archive with College Board.

Sending archived scores from College Board:

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/scores/sending/old.html

“Your test scores and your responses to the SAT Questionnaire are retained on active file until June of the year after the school year in which you tested, after which the test scores only are archived. If you tested before October 2002, you should request Archived Scores.”

“Official score reports that are sent to colleges five or more years after a test date are accompanied by a message explaining that they may be less valid predictors of college academic performance than more recent scores.”

They do ask for the date you took it, though. If you call in, they might be able to retrieve that information for you too. But you might just want to retake it. 🙂

I’m not quite sure, but if the college board still ran the SAT’s back then, they might be able to help you. I would contact them.

Also, you could always retake them to get a better score and be at par with others that have taken the new SAT’s, they have changed in the last few years, as you probably know, they are now out of 2400.

Good Luck

Here is the contact information for the organization that runs the testing:

http://www.collegeboard.com/html/communications000.html

Before you contact them and pay all that money to get your scores, you need to make sure that the schools you’re applying for will take a 30-year-old score. Most schools won’t.

Good luck with everything.

Your scores are no longer valid, even if you could get them. You may need to take the test again. Contact your college and ask for information about your situation. They may have an alternative for you.
