You do not need to retake that course to keep a 4.0 in college. Colleges don’t count your AP classes as graded classes. If they accept an AP test, it goes on your transcript as credit without a grade. The courses in college that affect your GPA are graded classes you take while in college. College credit you get in high school via AP classes is not graded; therefore, does not affect GPA.

For example, I graduated a semester early from college because I accumulated a lot of AP credits in high school. These credits showed up on my transcript as classes I would have taken in college, but without grades. So, they had absolutely no effect on my GPA. Essentially, they were tantamount to take a class Pass/Fail and passing the class. You get the credit, but you don’t get a change in GPA.

Check with the colleges you want to go to in order to make sure this advice applies; however, this was my experience in college.

Hope this helps.

I took 9 AP courses in high school (just graduated) and AP scores have NO bearing on your college GPA at all. Colleges just use them to decide whether or not you have mastered the material enough to place out/get credit for the subject. The only high school courses that count towards your college GPA are college co-op classes, which count like transfer credits because you are following the exact same curriculum as the college course. Often times these are combined with AP courses (we have an AP Chem course at my school that is also a University of Connecticut co-op) but if you took one of these, they would have told you at the start of the course and made you pay an extra fee, so I’m sure you would know. Regular old AP courses don’t affect your GPA in any way, and a 3 is a decent score, so it’s up to you whether to retake it. If it’s a foundation course for your major I would take it over again, but if you feel comfortable with it and what you learned I would just move on and take a more interesting course.

I don’t know how an AP class/test will affect a college GPA.

Hey … that’s a great goal/ambition. It’s up to you… do you want to spend extra time and money for a class for a better grade? Or just take the credit and don’t worry about that class?

the grade you got on the test does not affect your GPA. You’re GPA all depends on how good you did in the class so if you did good in the class you don’t need to worry about retaking it.
