You spell and write literately so that works in your favor. I know many people who have started at entry level positions in companies and moved up due to their willingness to learn more either through on the job training, on-line courses, or night school. It appears you have a solid foundation to learn this way.
One friend started as a receptionist in a real estate office and ended up as top seller and broker. She did go back to school to pick up a business degree, but that was because she wanted to.
My mom ( with minimal college coursework) worked for years as a legal secretary and did very well financially because she knew how to spell and punctuate, and her bosses knew she would never send out an incorrect document.
Another friend started working in someone else’s greenhouse, but ended up with her own greenhouse and landscaping business.
The key here is for you to find a job doing something that interests and challenges you. The happiest people I know are happy because they know what they do matters, and they do it well as a result. Some of these folks are manual laborers who love their type of labor. Some are professionals who found their great mission in life because of or in spite of college. All of them give more than the job requires because they think what they do is important.
Good luck thinking about what it is that catches your interest in the work world. Create a great resume and go for your dream.
It’s not just a question of “getting a job”. It’s finding your life’s work that will make you feel happy, purposeful, and motivated.
Getting a job is not enough.
So, the first thing you really need to figure out is what that dream job is. Is it working on cars? Landscaping? Driving a truck? Those are all jobs that can be done with a high school diploma.
BUT…..if you want to do something else, that is perhaps technical, like a job in the health care field, or office work, etc. You are going to have to get training for that.
If the job of your dreams requires a 4 year degree, then it’s time to plan for that and achieve your goals. Until you find the work that fulfills you, you might as well just “get a job”. That’s not a smart choice for a happy, productive life.
If you don’t yet know what you want to do, try to talk to as many people in different fields as possible and get a feel for what they do. Go talk to a career counselor at a local college.
There are not many jobs anymore that don’t require some sort of post-high school education.
Good luck to you.
Also, you didn’t mention college, but please consider finishing or you will likely be working an entry level job for years with little chance for promotion and the lowest raises. A college degree will help open the doors to so many more opportunities than you have access to with only your HS diploma.
Let me honest there is no guarantee that better education and better jobs will make you happy. You will be materialistically better of.
I would work on both fronts I would take any job that is available now with my education status and then try to better my education status.
since you have no college education, your options are very limited…i would really suggest taking a course in something. what are u interested in ???
-best of luck 2 u
