I beleive these are called idioms. A metaphor is comparing two unlike things, such as…couch potato, road hog, rug rat…etc.

An idiom is like a saying…A house divided against itself cannot stand alone, A picture paints a thousand words.

They are tricky sometimes to decifer… especially when similes get thrown in there…the difference there is the word “like” is present… The wind was like a lion…comparind the wind to the lion. Not calling it a lion, but it was similar to it.

So, is it still sayings (idioms) that you need, or metaphors?
