okay…

first, you must know what an integer is.

integer is any positive or neative number including zero.

now, to help you understand integers better:

1. make a horizontal line. have the center and call it the point of origin, label it 0(zero).

2. starting from the origin, count 1to any number you want to stop, let’s say 5. mark the point as you count. label them +1 +2 +3 +4 +5…note: number with + sign and number without + and – sign are also positive, like 2.

3. do the same on the left side of the origin. but at this time label them with a – sign…-1 -2 -3 -4 -5

that’s you number line…for a first learner like you, that’s the easiest way to guide you in learning integers.

now,on positive integers:

you must know that numbers near to the origin have low value than the numbers farther from zero.

on negative integers, the law is opposite:

the integer nearest to the zero has greater value than the integer far from it.

okay, let’s go to fundamental operations:

analyze the laws:

addition—numbers with same sign have the same sign on its sum.

ex. +1

+ +1

————

+2

ex. -1

+ -1

———

-2

but if the two numbers are unlike in sign, add them as if you’re subtracting then get adapt the sign of the integer that has the greater value for the difference.

ex. no.1

+2

+ -1

——–

+1

ex. no. 2

-5

+ +2

——–

-3

subtraction:

numbers with the same sign, their sign are followed for the difference.

but notice:

+5

– +1

——–

—->

+5

(+) – 1

———-

+4

change the operation symbol to +

then change the integer sign to its opposite..but this is only applicable to the number you are going to subtract, the second number.

another:

8

– -2

———-

8

+ +2

———

10

get it?

then for multiplication:

if the two numbers have the same sign, the product is always positive but if they have different signs the product is always negative..

+2 x +2 = +4

-2 x -2 = + 4

but..

-3 x + 2 = -6

and for some cases like 3 numbers:

+2 x +1 x -2= +2 x +1 = +2 then multiply to -2

+2 x -2 = -4

got it?

the same with division:

same sign is positive and different sign is negative..ALWAYS.

you know the number line? example:

-3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3

you know that? well the numbers on the line are called integers. when integers of the same sign are together, add them:

1 +1 =2

-1 -1 = -2

Okay? different signs however, are trickier. Subtract the smaller value, from the bigger value. Then copy the sign of the bigger number:

3 -2 = 1

-3 +2 = -1

Integers are whole numbers. 1, 2, 3 ect. – not 2.5 or 1/2. They can also be negative. They are occasionally called “counting” numbers because they are the first numbers taught.

mergesort and quicksort as 2 algorithms which kind in O(n log n) time which on traditional it does not come any quicker. There is one factor to notice regardless that that those algorithms can dissolve into linear time for a few knowledge units
