I am a special ed teacher and have had as many as 17 aides working with me in full inclusion classrooms. When you interview remember that you are there for the child/children – his/her education is the most important. You need to love these kids first. You need patience. These kids take baby steps in learning most of the time. You need to be able to listen to the teacher and do what they want. If you disagree, you need to find a way to get your ideas across in a positive manner without degrading the teacher. Many times the aides know the children better than the teacher because you will find you spend more time with some specific children who need more help. Be willing to involve the parents and listen to their concerns. Be a team player. When you interview dress appropriately, be clean, think before answering, and if you don’t understand the question ask for clarification. Communication skills are so important. Good Luck. Classroom Aides are my best friends and without them we would be lost. Melanie

Try not to impress, just come across confident and competent– know your stuff. Some principals want someone who will listen to them, believe it or not. Just be yourself.

just be yourself. if you are not in this filed of course she will ask you why you want to change your profession. If you are in this field, you just sell your experiences with young children. You can always voice out your opinion(s) about young children education and what is the level of satisfaction if you see that children achieved some tasks.
