I have a 2.6 GPA. Is there hope?

I’m going to be a senior this upcoming school year. I didn’t take me junior year serious and now I’m wishing I would have done better. I know colleges tend to look at your junior year to determine if they will accept you and I’ve really been stressed out about it. My SAT scores were ok, 1395. I’ve participated in different activities and I’ve done some community service. Even with that being said, I know this isn’t anything compared to other students. Is there still a chance that I can get accepted into a state school or university?? I would prefer not to go to a community college, partly because my mom would not want me to and I really don’t want to myself.

There is definitely hope you for you! I think I graduated with a 2.6 and I am now a senior in college who makes Dean’s List every semester (and I never went to a community college, either).

Study hard and take your senior year seriously. Colleges are going to look at your grades and see that you are working hard. That is going to look really good to them, and combining that with your great SAT scores (I don’t even think I broke 1000), and your varying extracurriculars, you are good to go :-)!

Based on your SAT, you might find a school that would have mercy upon you, but would that really be your preference? Although you may not want to go to a community college that is your best option. Go there, do well, then you will be able to choose your college rather than taking whatever is available.

Take courses that you are sure will transfer into your major at a university. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to a community college. I did so myself and now have a Master’s Degree.

Wow, you really screwed up didn’t you. If you want a good 3.0 something you’ll need like straight A’s on EVERYTHING….that is so much pressure for a senior year.

You’ll get accepted somewhere but I think they weigh GPA higher than the SAT and ACT….a high GPA tells them that you’re a hard worker and strong student.

A high SAT or ACT, could just be a fluke….you just had a good day.

I had a 3.8 graduating which is really good and I did bad on the SAT and made a 23 on the ACT…but I got into a REALLY good university because of my high GPA and essay

If it’s a state school you want then you’ll get in….just don’t except the best state school in your state…like the namesake school

Your state university HAVE to take you. As long as you are at or above a 2.5 you can get in. Your taxes ( parent’s) support the state universities. You will have work to do to stay but you can get in. Consider giving it the old college try for your senior year. Good luck. Remember, someone has to take you but they do not have to keep you.

State schools aren’t that choosy for the most part. You may need to be on probabtion the first year to make sure you keep your grades up, but your SAT’s are good and you have shown interest in being a well-rounded student with interests in extra-curricular activites.

Today you are telling us your GPA is 2.6.

I saw another question from you today saying your GPA is 2.25?

Which is it?

There are three parts to your SAT exam. What is the raw score on each part?

Answer those questions and then perhaps I can suggest how you can get into FAMU.

there’s plenty of unis out there that accepts 2.6!

but don’t rest on your laurels.

study hard for your senior year.

admission counselors take into account the fact that you improved a lot from your junior year to senior year

retake the SAT

and hopefully by the end of your senior year, you’ll have a 2.9.

If you apply in a public university, most likely they will accept you if your SAT scores are higher than the score they are asking for.

Good luck

my advice to you is to study hard this coming senior year and visit www.collegeboard.com and check out the colleges that accept students with a 2.0 gpa and higher

sounds like you’ll do fine as long as Harvard isnt at the top of your list. Just get your GPA above 3.0 and you’ll be fine
