I can’t afford to not work. So how could I possibly quit to go back to school?

I am a mother of a 5 yr old, and one on the way. My husband works hard, but the ends still never seem to meet. The bills never stop, and I can’t afford to take time off to go back to college. However, I never see myself getting ahead making hourly wages.

Any suggestions/advice??

Apply for financial assistance by completing the application at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and see what you are offered. After charges at the school are paid you get the remainder to help with other expenses including living. Look at working part-time and going to school part-time.

You can go to school at nights and weekends or you can take online courses which can be challenging sometimes but are time savers and you can keep on working during the day, it’ll be very hard since you have a kid and you’re also expecting another one, but if you really really want to do this, then you’ll get through it. Also since your husband and you don’t make enough money and you’ll have 2 kids at home, I’m pretty you’ll be eligible for a loan and a respectable grant that will really help you, I know single mothers that go to school full time and work during the day and they really had a hard time going through it but now they’re almost done and their hard work will eventually pay off. So good luck to you and I’m sure you’ll be able to do it with some sacrifices. It’ll be hard but keep in mind that it’s just temporary and when you’re done with school, it’ll be just “talk”.

My husband and I encountered the same problem when he wanted to go back to school. I’m a teacher and we can’t afford to live on my salary.

What we discovered was that his job with Verizon pays for the on line degree programs though University of Phoenix on line. He’s working full-time and doing his school work at night. As long as he does not get lower than a “C” in his classes, Verizon will continue to pay for it. He also only takes 2 classes at one time, and will have an associates in business in 18 months.

I know that both Verizon and Sprint offer to pay for school for their employees. It might be worth looking into getting a job with a company that would help pay for school.

I just graduated from college last year, and I know that many of my friends worked for UPS or FedEx to help pay for school because they have some type of education program refund.

One way to do it is to take a class at a time and just keep working at it. It takes you a depressingly long time, but if I would have done that a few years ago, I’d be done now! Just keep plugging at it and you’ll make it eventually.

I knew one person who went back full time. She was able to get a lot of financial aid, worked while she was in school, and was able to finish. You may want to check into financial aid–when you include loans, it is possible to go back full time, even with bills to pay.

Do it the way I did; work during the day and go to school at night, part-time. Took me awhile, but was worth it.
