Congress is issuing subpoenas for White House aids. White house aids are exercising “Executive Power” per President Bush.

Congress is trying to check on the White House activities and President Bush is balancing it with “Executive Privilege.”

Now congress is going to hold aids in contempt…

The first thing that comes to mind is accounting and how you must have invoices for all check paid out, receipts for all funds spent. Those are checks and balances.

Also, pharmacies use checks and balances, one person fills your prescription, another checks the medication in the bottle and counts it.

Another checks and balances practice that pops in to mind is store inventory. Inventory is taken at a store and balanced out with what is on record as being sold, if there are differences, they can be attributed to theft or damaged goods.

As a busy mom one has lot of opportunities for the application of checks and balances in child development. Discipline without oppression. Freedom within some bounds.Reward and punishment. There are hundreds of such issues.

It must be possible to put together an autobiographical essay with interesting illustrative anecdotes.

The Supreme Court involvement in the Patriot Act or prisoners in Guantanamo Bay would work.
