Don’t Panic. Everybody goes through the long hard process of applying to college or some type of school at some point. Make sure you use your full potential and put a lot of effort in finishing off the year strong because senior year is just as important as grades 9-11. You should apply to at least 10 colleges or less. Some are reach schools, the schools you want to apply but may not get in. The next are your good match schools which are schools you know you could get in, and your safety schools are schools you know you will definately get in. Choose your colleges wisely. Learn everything about the school you’re applying to. Find out about what they require for admissions, what majors do they offer, how is their campus, everything. Complete everything on the correct deadline. Be yourself. Show off and again, use your full potential. The process is long, but when you get that acceptance letter, it will all be worth it.

Start early. I made the mistake of waiting until a week before deadline to apply and only got accepted to 2/9 colleges. Also, try to do well your senior year, don’t slack off as many tend to do, and try to do well on your SAT reasoning and subject tests (if any for placement). Try to apply to different types of schools. I applied to a couple Ivy-league, private and public universities. Do not assume that the first school you apply to will accept you(I live in FL, applied to UF and was rejected). I was actually surprised that NC State accepted me, being out of state. I believe that my anxiety affected the fact that I procrastinated.

Keep your grades up, think positive, and stay out of trouble. Sounds really corny, but that’s really the main thing. If you need to pick up a few extracurriculars, do that. If your grades need a little boost, go for it. And don’t forget to do the practice exams for the SATs if you have not taken those yet. That will help a lot.

And look … places like Ohio State, NC State, University of Florida, and University of Utah are GOOD colleges. You do NOT have to go to Brown or Harvard to have a successful career.

If your school offers college campus trips, take them! they help a great deal, and see if your school offers a college help kind of program. Also think of things you want to study in college and choose schools that specialize to those, them arrange a college tour.
