YOu need to look at the Education class requirements for a given state and see if you already have ACCREDITED credits in that. Such as Special Education. Did you take a Special Ed course in college and was it an accredited college.

You may need to take the Praxis in NY for grade and course study and pass it.

All YOU have to do is MEET the manditory education level for NY schools.

The site shows what you COLLEGE courses have to had been. How many UNITS you needed.

You probably have met then.

Then there are the SPECIAL courses such as Special Education.

I think New York also requires you have taken a course in dealing with Drugs and possibly child abuse.

After that you need the Praxis for New York, which is DIFFERENT than for other states.

Call up an upstate, for example, Superintendets office and talk with them and outline what you have done.

In some instances you can teach IMMEDIATELY on a TEMPORARY permit pending your final Certification wtihin a year.

The New York Department of Education sites make it QUITE clear what you need EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE wise for EACH type of Certificate, Registration or License.

They detail how much Biology, Chemistry, Math, History you must have taken and how many units it must be.

There are ususlaly SEVERAL optional methods.

You will PROBABLY have to let them get a copy of your colelge transcripts.

If you fail to meet some courses they MAY require you take them before giving you a Certificate.
