First off don’t listen to people that tell you to set your standards a little lower. It’s a hell of a lot easier to have your GPA drop then it is to try and raise it after you get a 2.0 your first semester.

As far as organizing your study time make sure you know when assignements are due and when you have class. For some people having classes 2 or 3 times a week instead of every day may be a big change depending on how your high school did classes. No need to work on the assignement that’s due on wednesday before you finish the one that’s due tuesday.

Another thing that will help a lot is to go home and do the work the day it was assigned. There are many reasons for this. One is that you’ll learn more by doing this instead of waiting for a week to start it and have forgotten everything by then. Another reason is that it’s easier to do the homework when things are fresh in your mind. Finally if you put it all off you’re going to either have shitty weekends cause you’re spending all the time doing homework or you’re not going to get it all done you’ll get bad grades.

As long as you know what you’re capable of and aren’t taking too many classes or too many really hard classes you shouldn’t have much trouble getting good grades. 4.0 GPA is not impossible contrary to what a lot of people will tell you. It is hard but nothing is impossible.

My grade average was 4.0 tops. What I did was if there were any special reports or essays or analysis to do on a special assignment, then I would do these first and have them done and turned in on time because after the dead line date, a lower grade was given. So always be on time in these research papers.

On every day studies, you must take notes in class, not notes on every thing said in the class but on the specific important data that is given.

If there is any heavy reading to be one, then get that done and do take notes while you read because your notes about what you read put into your own words is better than buying and reading the “short”form of any novel or book. Write down questions that you may have as you go along reading so that in a group discussion or on the internet you can answer them and this will help on the test.

Never put off any assignment. I start with the harder ones first because these are where any available books, newspapers, film, cd’s, dvd’s or any material available will sure later be scarce and hard to get. My proffesor asked us to see a movie, the university library was out so off to the video rental store where I did borrow it and with my husband we both answered the questions that were of that movie. The movie was good the questions were hard and you have to look deep into the movie so imagin how many times we paused the movie? But that is how it goes.

But be sure never to leave any questions, or assignments unattended, this will cost.

Maybe this isn’t what you’re asking, but something like this needs to be flexible. You know what the syllabus and assignments are for each class. Be sure you schedule your time so you can complete the assignments on time. If you’ve got a huge paper due for one class, devote more time to that, but don’t forget to keep on top of the work for other classes. If an assignment will require a lot of reading, of course don’t leave that all until the last minute. It’s all pretty much common sense. There aren’t any shortcuts: do the work, and you’ll be fine.

As a college librarian, I’d like to point out that librarians are there to help the students complete their assignments. Don’t forget to ask them for guidance. They can save you time by pointing your research in the right direction and guiding you toward the best resources.

If you want to get an A in each class then you will have to give up everything in your life that is important and put all your energy into your studies.

My advice why aim too high too soon. You will end up having nothing in the end to aim for.

Perfection is not necessary. Just work hard, do your best, but take time out to relax or you will end up burnt out and not passing anything at all.

Good luck with your studies though.

I agree with Jayan. Its going to be all work and no play. I don’t know if that’s HEALTHY, but, it is the road you will have to walk.

I do think there is a happy median though. You can’t go through 4 years of college and not have a college experience. You know what you are capable of. You know what you can and can’t do. Balance is the key. Have fun, but know when to say when…
