Depends on whether he/she really and truly believes in what they are “standing up” for…..sometimes, people stand on principle they do not truly understand..or they will ride a prinicple to the “death”, even when PROVEN wrong….
The disadvantages are someone is always going to want to challenge you and your prinicples…and continuing to stand up for something that was wrong to begin with…will eventually see it’s crashing end….
It’s a delicate balance…and those with strong morals and principles should not be easily swayed…

Standing on a principle is noble in theory. But we have to remember that PEOPLE are more important than principles. Standing up for what we believe is great in a large group, or in a debate, or in defending your home, your family, and your country. Often on a personal basis, though maintaining one point without negotiating or compromise or listening to anther’s point of view can end in lost friends, make enemies, hurt loved ones, and even cause divorce and family splits. Then you have to humble yourself even more to forgive, ask forgiveness and mend hurt feelings. You have to decide if it is really principle or just pride.

hi. i think it’s not a question of how tall the person is, it’s how stubborn that person could be. oftentimes, a person would know that he is wrong and that he is already losing in an argument, but standing on his principles would give him justification–making himself believe that he is right as long as he stands on it.

It’s a metaphorical stance that elevates an abstract concept to the heights of delerium eventually. The disadvantage is that that while your (so called) true voice resonates in stentorian tones of dulcet glibness it also isolates your message to those not on your (so called) level. It alienates the audience.
