How does pell grant work?

I have filled out FAFSA and already got SAR and applied for school… I am new to this and have no idea how it works. How will I know if I got the aid? How will I get the money and how soon?

I am sorry if it sounds stupid…

it dosent sound stupid unlike a student loan pell grants do not have to be repaid basicly it’s free money unless you fail to full fill your obligation normally only undergrads get the money how much can you get the max for 07-08 was 4310 but it can change each award year either up or down it depends on your financial need but also on your cost to attend school full or part time if you qualify you will be notified by letter from your school they must tell you how much your award is how and when you will be paid if you want to know more check out your library or these web sights FPG, federal pell grant, academic competitiveness grant, national smart grant, institutional grants they all have great info

A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Generally, Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. (A professional degree is usually earned after earning a bachelor’s degree in a field such as medicine, law, or dentistry.) In some cases, you may receive a Pell Grant for attending a postbaccalaureate teacher certificate program. For many students, Pell Grants provide a foundation of financial aid to which other aid may be added.

I just recently enrolled in college last july and i had got approved for one of these grants. It is part of the financial aid process. Once your FAFSA has been approved and the college has approved it as well, you will receive an award letter.

Not a stupid question. Follow up with the financial aid office at your school. The pell grant is need based so if your SAR shows a $0 EFC (expected family contribution) you will be eligible for the maximum award.

You will get the pell and tap grants through your fafas form. It goest to the college. Before school starts they should inform you as to how much you get. Some time you can call the college financial office and they will tell you, it depends on the college if they want to take time to do this. But, every body gets some.
