How do I solve this problem?

How many liters of a 12% solution must be mixed with a 40% alcohol solution to make a 12 liter solution that is 30% alcohol?

let x = the number of liters of 12% solution.

12-x = the number of liters of 40% solution

then the equation becomes

12%(x) + 40%(12-x) =30%(12) or 12x+40(12-x) = 30(12)

multiply out: 12x+480-40x=360

combine like terms with x on one side: 28x=120

x= 120/28 or 30/7 liters.
