Hi I’ve been an elementary teacher and tutor for 11 years. The children that I tutor put up a block from their parents and don’t want to learn from them for some odd reason. They hire me to teach all early education, primary subjects. I work by the hour and I play games with words and sounds, easy writing teach how to hold a pencil, and basic adding and subtracting, and counting. Singing is always fun, too . I taught Kindergarten 4 years out of my career. It is difficult for some to get adjusted so the parents in my class used to be very patient .

Small chunks is a key. A five year old is able to focus on an activity for 5 to 10 minutes at the most. Whatever you are working on, do it in small doses, and with lots of stimulation. Above all, make it FUN! Try offering stickers or tokens for each activity completed. When an obtainable amount of stickers are earned, allow your child to pick the next activity!
Wishing you a fabulous first year of school!

The biggest thing that you can do as a parent: make sure you go over things with him each night, make sure that you are seen at the school. In general, be involved with his education. If he sees that you think it’s important, he will take it more seriously.

Stop teaching him. Play with him have fun.
Read the book “Summerhill” out of print now but at your library by A.S. Neil
