How do I dress for a teaching workshop?

I have never been to an official teaching workshop, but I will be a first year teacher this year and I have several all-day long workshops coming up. I didn’t know if I needed to dress comfortably or professionally? They are just workshops, it’s not like we’re teaching, right?

Teachers often arrive to these dressed very casual (tshirts). I suggest a bit more – above poster works best.

good luck!

always remember
The one thing I hate about teaching is the “uppity” ‘tude of some other teachers and their ideas of professionalism……..

Anyone that tells you you cant be a good teacher if you dont dress professionally is a moron……

That being said………….wear whatever you want. Want to go in jeans? DO IT! Its a workshop, not a funeral………be comfortable………I wouldnt waste any time getting caught up in the “looking the part” garbage……….

I’m a secondary ed teacher and I NEVER wear a tie or slacks to class………..jeans and tshirts……….and I get the job done…and so do my kids………………there are people posting here who will give me the thumbs down for that, but those people generally have a really skewed view of education

Dress how you like…………

The first response is correct. Business casual is the way to go. You want to be taken seriously, but also be comfortable.

It is a small world…you never know who you will run into or who will notice you…it could be a future co-worker, principal, and so on.

Leave the t-shirt, jeans, and flip flops at home. If this is a workshop sponsored by your school system, it is technically a “work day” even though you are not dealing with parents or students.

Also, remember, if you wanted to be treated like a professional, you will have to dress like a professional.

Comfortably. Don’t get out your hoochy momma club wear or anything, but nice jeans are okay. ๐Ÿ™‚ Dress in layers- you never know whether the room will be stuffy or freezing (and it’s never somewhere in between). Depending on the workshop and the grade level, you may be asked to do stupid pointless activities that involve running around or playing games on the floor.

I think, that you should feel comfortable in that dress… but without some exaggeration… I’m a teacher and I prefer elegant but casual dress…

Take care ๐Ÿ™‚

yep, like what everyone else is saying. Comfortable but somewhat dressed up. I’d wear a nice shirt, some carpi pants (not denim,) and nice shoes.
