It depends on the college. You will need a bachelor’s in Spanish (but not necessarily a master’s–that will only get you more money and maybe qualify you to teacher high level courses like AP Spanish). When it comes to education, some colleges will make you take education courses, and then if you maintain a certain GPA and do well on the PRAXIS tests, you can teach. Other colleges might require you to get a master’s degree in secondary education in order that you can be certified to teach.

Studying in a Spanish-speaking country is very important. You immerse yourself in the culture as well as the language and you will get a feel for what it is like “being Spanish/Hispanic”. Students love to hear about your experiences. A BA, with a Spanish/ Secondary Ed major was enough for me when I graduated a long time ago. (You definitely will need a major in some level of education in order to teach. ) . I taught high school 20 years (things were very different), went into the middle (junior high) school, got a second teaching certificate in English as a Second Language, and then, in 2000, when New Jersey decided to make a world language a requirement on the elementary levels, I requested a transfer. At that time in my career, it was the most fun thing I could have done. You can always pick up a Master’s degree later and, possibly, be lucky enough that your school district will pay for it!! (or at least some of it)

Use your Spanish as much as possible; try to get a job, paying or voluntary, where you will use your Spanish. I have always found that speakers of other languages appreciate every attempt I make to speak their language. Good luck to you! We can always use good teachers, especially men who can connect with the needs of adolescents.

I needed to write a paper on why I desired to be a Middle School/High School math instructor. I wrote: For so long as I can keep in mind I have continually identified that I wish to make a change in men and women’s lives. I selected math considering the fact that we use it every day. The pupils can use what they gain knowledge of in school and use it on the truly global. (I wrote some thing like that) You would say that during present day society realizing a moment language may be very lucrative. There are many Spanish talking men and women within the US in these days and being ready to converse with a form of men and women will support the pupils be victorious as good as good-rounded. The pupils will gain knowledge of a brand new language and a brand new subculture. I desire this is helping

First you will need to do a double major, Teaching and Spanish and you will need a Masters in Teaching.

You should check on the certification requirements in the state that you will be working. In New York, you can start work with a B.A. and work towards the Masters. I’m sure that certain ed credits are mandatory but you should check with the certifying people of your state.
