They will only know if they double check.
Usually, they will give you the benefit of doubt and trust that you are telling the truth. If you say that you have more than 100+ hrs of volunteer experience, they would probably check anyways…just to make sure.

They usually will check some things on the apps. probably not all so someone could get by with it. Really they don’t have to worry to much. If a person would lie about what they put on the forms, it usually means that they weren’t interested in doing what they knew they should have done, or they wanted to appear “more” than they are. Either way this tendency will generally continue and before long their space in college will be available for someone else anyway.

They probably don’t know for sure, but if it were ever to come out, you could get kicked out of the college for lying on your application, especially if you signed the application saying that everything was accurate to the best of your knowledge.

its not like it helped me much anyway…i was on the varsity swim team, captain of the forensics team, sec of sadd, public relations officer and bulletin editor or key club, mat-maid, dance, taught swim lessons and did blood drives for the red cross, volunteered and taught dance and makeup for a childens acting group, volunteered for all kinds of blizzard box drives and river sweeps and just all sorts of things and had a 4.0 and got no scholarships other than the ones based on gpa and sat like everyone else gets.
Colleges care about money.

They could check with where you volunteered, but otherwise, they don’t know.
