How did you decide?

I need to enroll into college but I don’t know what i want to go to college for…I’m thinking about being an rn, radiologist, or an something in the insurance line. How did you decide what you wanted to go to college for and what was your determining factor?

If you want to be degreed in the health field, you need to be good at math & science. Is that something you enjoy?

A radiologist is a doctor and will require medical school. A radiographer requires less than an AA plus certification. The more specialized, the more math & science.

Many nurses with bachelor’s degrees go on to work for insurance companies.

Most colleges with Health schools require special admission into that program (nursing, radiology, phys therapy, etc). So you will need to do more than decide – you need to apply. Get copies of the course requirements and surf the web to read about careers that interest you. Then dive in!

I started as an undecided major- couldn’t pick nursing or teaching. I took bio my first year and that was a huge deciding factor. I did well (better than some nursing majors) but not what I had in mind.

Wherever you decide to go, take some math and science courses (you’ll have to anyways) and go from there. If that doesn’t pan out, then go towards insurance.

Good luck and no matter what you choose, do it because you WANT to, not because you HAVE to!!

i debated back and forth between mercer university and georgia state university. i was going to go to either mercer university for pharmacy or georgia state university for computer information systems. the deciding factor for me was working a yr at cvs/pharmacy during my senior yr of high school. i got to see what pharmacist actually do and i hated it. it was so boring for me and too repetitive. i wanted something that was more exciting and i also wanted a career where i could climb and progress. when you go to school to become a pharmacist you do just that, become a pharmacist and 20+ yrs later thats what you still are. but in the business and computer field you can climb the corporate ladder through various promotions.

i will be attending boston college in the fall semester. i chose boston college because they had a great business program there. i decided that i wanted to major in finance after i attended a summer business camp; which i really enjoyed. the clincher was meeting bankers at the camp and it made me want to go into banking.
