How did you choose your college major?

I went to college knowing I wanted to be a dentist and so I started out as a Biology major. Then I took Comparitive Physiology and I realized that Bio wasn’t the best idea for me. By joining different groups on campus, I found my niche which is writing. I am now a very happy Communications major and Journalism minor!

My college major actually chose me. I entered as an undeclared major and tried taking a few different classes in areas that I was interested in. I declared an Education major for only a semester, then I realized that teaching definitely wasn’t for me (I hate kids). Then, at the end of my freshman year I declared Criminal Justice. Last semester, at the end of my junior year, I added a second major of Psychology. Not only do I have an interest in both subjects, but I also got a lot of my coursework out of the way before I even declared because I WANTED to take the classes out of interest. Needless to say, my majors really picked me, not the other way around.

I knew early on what my major would be.

To say the least, I had a wonderful Biology Teacher in High School, that sparked my interest in the subject. He would ask me questions like “Did you know that…” and they I would say “umm… no”, and he’d go and explain a little bit to me, but the, just stop, and I’d be so interest I would have to go home and look it up myself.

I discovered a lot of science throughout high school, and when I entered College, I knew I was going to study Biology, and I”ve thus narrowed down my specialty to Genetics, because someone so fundamental about everything that is so unknown just strikes me as fascinating.
