How did Lady Bird Johnson get her name? I know Lady Bird isnt’ her real name.?

I read recently that her nanny/caregiver called her that as a child and it just stuck. Apparently the woman used to say to her, “You are as pretty as a Lady bird.”

She was christened Claudia Alta Taylor as a child she acquired the nickname Ladybird. The name turned out to be quite apropos as she was a great conservationist and very in involved with preserving natural wildflower spaces and beautifying the world around her. She married president Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1934. He became the 37th president in 1963 following the assassination of JFK. They had two daughter Lynda Bird and Luci Baines.She was a tireless supporter of her husband and took a special interest in his war on poverty program especially the Headstart project. She also created the First Lady’s Committee for a more Beautiful Capital. A classy first lady who helped improve our country. She will be truly missed.

most people don’t know her real name, and that’s why they just call her Lady Bird. Good question though, because I’m curious at what point did the name “Lady Bird” become official. Was it in her marriage certificate? Was it in the Presidential inauguration? It must be a recent entry in wikipedia because if you do a search under “lady bird” you won’t find anything.

She was an avid gardener and conservationist. Flowers and plants comprised a great passion of hers. Because she built bird feeders until almost every nook and cranny of her multiple gardens, she was affectionately given the name.

It simply happens to be an ironic coincidence that her nickname contained the same exact initials as her husband’s moniker.

Oh, well, I’ve read the majority of entries here. Simply made an educated guess, though I know for a fact she did indeed plant multiple bird feeders throughout her gardens, but maybe that was in relationship to her love of nature and it simply mirrored the nickname she’d already been given. That seems to make sense.

I don’t know if it’s true, but my grandfather always said that Lyndon had several of his family members use the initials LBJ, and he would always sign his name as LBJ rather than sign his full name so if any contracts or whatever would come into question, he would always be able to claim he wasn’t the LBJ who signed it.

Seems like the sort of scam LBJ would have pulled…

possibly so… which might help to explain why most states have since invalidated ‘using intials’ to sign contracts.

In most states ‘initials’ are not valid signatures for contracts.

Any and all contracts are often invalid immediately if initials are used.. and anybody who knows this will often insist on real signature or not honor the contract till properly signed.

I know someone said to her. “You are sweet as a Lady Bird.” and it kind of stuck in her head. She liked it and decided to be call that. At least according to Fox News.
