How can I use the left over federal and state aid I received?

I received much more than enough federal and state aid for the upcoming school year. What happens to rest of the money that I won’t be using for tuition? I know I’ll be able to use it for books and school fees, but what about things like basic living expenses, and better yet, childcare? And if they won’t let me use it for those purposes, can I just save it for the next school year? I haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone in the financial aid office at my school yet and I wanted to see if anyone here could answer my question. Thanks!

Well, technically you can’t use federal student aid proceeds for ” what ever you wish” as some people have stated. The money is supposed to be used for “educational related expenses” BUT, if you can really call a lot of things “education related”. You have to eat, to live to go to school school. You need a car, for transportation, ( to get to school). You need housing to, ( you get the idea). Once you have the check, the school or government has no control over what you do with it.

they will send you a check for the amount left after school expenses…i recommend you use it for your books (they’re freakin ridiculously expensive!) yes you can definently use it for living expenses and childcare…pretty much anything you want…its your money! i also recieved a pell grant and plan on using the extra money on a laptop!:) good luck to you!

you should get a check for the remainder of aid earned above tuition that you can use for whatever you wish.
