Show them that you have a particular interest. When you’re aiming as high as yale, they are used to applications crammed with extracurricular activities, and they know that many of them are complete BS. Stick with the same language throughout high school for 4 years, get involved with at least 2 WORTHY extracurriculars and EXCEL in them. Being the president of the Spanish club doesn’t mean **** and they know it. For instance, fed challenge, mock trial, Model UN, forensics, etc. Those will mean something to admissions officers. Sports help too, but if you don’t like sports at all it’s not worth dedicating the time just to ride the bench. Plays would be great too.

Also, right an essay that they will remember. Don’t write about how you’ve matured, become a better person, love your teachers, Thoreau once said…blah blah blah. Write about something that actually defines you as a person, even if it’s a bit unconventional.

But a word of advice: it sounds like you’re gonna go some place very good indeed, don’t get bent out of shape for yale. There are certainly more fun places to be than New Haven, Connecticut.

That’s the longest answer I’ve ever given anyone.

Contrary to popular belief — money is not important — except for the fact that the quality of your HS matters, and rich people are more likely to live in a good school district.

If you graduate in the top 10% of your class, scoree 2200+ on your SATs, take AP classes, write a killer essay and are at least somewhat active in extracurriculars, you will get into some good university. You may or may not get into Yale — but will get in somewhere good.

connections. family that is alumni. it is extremely difficult to get into schools like that without connections. a ton of extracurriculars, languages, everything and anything. you must have over a 4.0 if you want to stand any chance. good luck

Being part of the Bush family, then all of that stuff doesn’t matter. But since you probably aren’t, having your parents donate a million dollars doesn’t hurt.
