High School–What I Want To Know?

I am going to be a freshman in high school this year. Are there any tips that you wish you knew before you entered high school (i.e. grades, sports, friends, guys, teachers, etc.)?

Don’t goof off your Freshman year, in terms of choosing classes and your grades. You’re going to care less and less about grades, especially senior year. Grades still matter, even senior year. I wish I had taken a few more easy classes Freshman year to boost my GPA. I had two study halls and did pretty bad. The next year I had no study halls and did much better. I guess I got lazy when I had study halls, or something. Unless you take Honors English, or some really hard science class, you won’t have too much homework, anyway.

I was in a few after-school stuff, but I wouldn’t say as demanding as sports. Sports will suck up a lot of time, and I can’t believe many athletes take a bunch of high-level classes and still get good grades, despite the sport. They are an inspiration. I wouldn’t load yourself unless you have to. That leads me to say that you should not load your senior year. I tried senior year with no study halls. Didn’t work out well at all. I struggled with Calculus (beware, it IS hard) AB AP. My school didn’t have anything between Pre-Calculus Honors and Calculus. We just jumped right into the hard material.

High school is a lot of fun, but there will be struggles. Your friendships are bound to change. I made quite a lot of friends in high school. Of course, there was always somebody who didn’t like me without a reason why, so you’ll have to learn to ignore those people. Really, if you ‘kill people with kindness’, even the mean ones can’t do much to you. You’re going to love high school so go in with a positive attitude. College is right around the corner.

It kinda depends on how big a school you’re going to. I’ll just give you the advice I’d give someone going to my school.

Regarding grades, just make sure you study and get your work done on time. If your school is anything like mine, then there is probably people that just go around coping other peoples assingments. If someone asks you for your work, you should only give it to them if you want to. If you say no, the chance that they’ll keep bugging you for it is failry small.

Sports can be fun, but just don’t push yourself to do too many things, because it can get to be a pain.

Friends and guys are just like they were in middle school. Some people feel the need to be in the ‘popular’ group or to have the upperclassmen acknowledge them, but trust me, that really isn’t important at all. No one looks up to them as much as some people think.

Above all, make sure to have fun and try new things. When I entered high school I made sure to try new sports and classes, till I found the things I liked. Meeting new people is also awesome and can be lots of fun. Good luck! ^_^

Choose your friends wisely. They can make the difference between success and failure. Keep your eye on your goal. If you want to go to college, you must plan accordingly. Get involved in clubs, student government, sports, and other extra curricular activities.

Pay attention in class. Take notes and get your homework and projects in on time. If you have a problem, make an appointment to get help from the teacher. Be respectful and courteous to everyone. That annoying little nerd in your class could be the next Bill Gates or Nicole Kidman.

all i can say is—have fun in high school but prepare to study because in high school you will be challenged to new levels of independent thinking and things like social pressure. you will also prepare to take the SAT exam in the middle of your junior year.

visit:

collegeboard.com to find more info to prepare for your four years of high school.

also don’t put a lot of pressure on yourself to make new friends. remember, not everyone can be your friend. you have to find somebody who you share the same interests with! somebody you can talk to as well. just wait a wait until you find your niche and don’t be too popular until you familiarize yourself with your surroundings.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Here’s my advice: Study hard, do your homework, stay focused, have fun but make smart decisions. You won’t regret it. Respect your teachers, even if you don’t like them. Be nice to them because being mean to them won’t help you. Don’t care too much what everyone else thinks of you. Be yourself. Don’t worry about the snobby kids. They’ll try to make your life miserable but don’t let them succeed.

I see a lot of people who stress over school… some with academics, some with sports, I say just keep it balanced… Just have fun with it! You only have 4 years of it!
