High school help?

I am going into 9th grade this fall and know nothing about high school! (I don’t have any older friends/ friends w/ older siblings.) I am going to be taking all honors classes and everyone is saying that is going to be really hard!

1. Should I carry 1 or 2 big binders for all my classes together, or a smaller one for each class?

2. How should I organize my binders?

3. How should I organize my locker?

4. (I think we can carry backpacks.) Should I keep all my books in my backpack, or keep them in my locker and get them as I need them throughout the day?

dont worry about your first day of high school. i was like that too and really nervous cause i was the only one that went to that school from all my friends so i really didnt know anybody. i think you should carry at least one binder per two classes. and dont carry all your books in your backpack cause it gets really heavy. just take with you the one you need for that period. they give you time to go to your locker between periods. and have fun.

Sweetie, the first thing you need to do is not worry so much. A lot of the things you are worrying about right now will just come naturally once you get there. For instance, if you are taking honors classes, you may decide that it is a good idea to have notebooks and binders for each class because you will have a lot of assignments and take a lot of notes. If your classes are far apart from each other, you may decide to carry all of your books with you from class to class to cut down on time. Also, when you organize your folders you may want to organize each one differently based on the class and what you need to do for each class. You won’t know any of that until you get there.

The only thing you need to worry about when starting high school is to have an open mind and a positive attitude. You are obviously bright and ambitious. Please remember to take the time to enjoy yourself while you are there.

I totally remember the feeling you are having! No worries!

I would recommend on the first day and even the first week, not making your assigned binders yet. You will need a couple of days to see when it is best to go to your locker and what classes you need to go to right after eachother (and therefore, may want to share one binder). I would always bring a folder with lots of paper and bring a zipper pouch thing with pens and pencils and just make note of how things are going. Chances are, your teacher will hand out syllabi and let u know more about the class once you get there. Some may suggest a separate binder but they probably will just trust you to do it in the way that is best for you. One BIG binder is tough once you get all ur junk in it – papers collect fast and its easy to lose stuff if its messy. I suggest dividers and definitely getting one of those things where u can punch 3 holes in the side of papers – they make one that fits in your binder – bc many times, teachers will give u thinks without holes and its easy to lose these papers if they’re not hooked in.

For your locker, I would suggest gettin a shelf – all you really need is one shelf so you can maybe put ur books on the bottom and your backpack and maybe lunch on the top. if u dont have a shelf, u will just end up with one big pile and have to dig under all ur books for the binder you’re looking for.

Definitely keep your books in your locker but some teachers may want u to bring them to class – the will let u know when they hand out the books whether or not to bring them. if not, just ask!

Also, when u “make” ur binders (i.e., write u name in them, divide them up, figure out what goes in them), write the name of the subject(s) clearly so u can view it in your locker easily and grab it when u need it! try to get different colored binders to help differentiate.

i took all honors – or AP/preAP and it was not bad at alll! challenging at times, but u will rise to the occassion. as long as u listen and try your best and take good notes, u will do just fine! High school is not nearly as bad as you think! Just be yourself and remember everyone else is going through the same thing as you and teachers are happy to help.

GOOD LUCK! that is smart of u to get advice on here to get lots of diff ideas! ull do great!

ski girl, you don’t have to be like everyone…and just organize your own things the way they would be comfortable for you to use. organize your binders in a way that would be easy for you to find certain papers. keep your books in the locker! don’t carry those bricks all the time. do things the way YOU want them to be done…or i don’t know..just decide for yourself. good luck in highschool!
