high school expectations essay?

starting with a little antidotal story is always a great way to start a personal essay. think along the lines of…

when i was five, the word ‘high school’ meant a baseball field, warm summery nights, and my parents cheering kids on while i picked dandilions. when i was ten, highschool was that mysterious place that my sister went to, where one apparently needed a car and a cell phone to attend. when i was thirteen, highschool was the answer to all my questions- “you can do that when you’re in high school” or “we’ll tell you when youre in high school.”

now, at fifteen, highschool is here…

When I went into high school, I expected it to be exactly like it was on TV. All sorts of drama, the “popular group” ruling the school, teachers giving detentions all the time, etc… I expected to get a 4.0, to get good enough grades so that I could be accepted at NYU, and to be in the “popular group” and on the cheerleading squad. Unfortunately, most of of my expectations proved to be false, as high school is a lot more laid back than I thought it would be. I never got a detention, I was fairly popular, and while I did well in school, I didn’t get a 4.0 OR get accepted to NYU. I was not scared in the least going into high school, I was just a little nervous after my first day… I remember thinking OMG did I dress right? That place is so big, I’m never gonna find my way around… No cute guys! 🙁 High school is so much fun though, for real… don’t waste it, it goes by so fast. And keep on the AP track because it’s super important when you apply to college:)

i was a freshman 2 years ago =D i thought school was gunna be hell but it wasnt. i lost all my old friends and made new ones. there was tons of drama but i stayed out of it. i loved all my new friends and classes. everyone was so nice to me. i didnt really have expectations for myself. i just went with whatever happened.
