High school credits… and university requirments.?

I’m going to be a sophmore this school year starting August 2007. I was thinking about moving to another school. I’m already registered at a private school that I went to for my freshmen year, but I was thinking about going into a public school for sophmore year. If I’m lucky I think I might be able to go at the beginning of the year and this won’t be a problem… but then again I might just start the public school halfway through the year (second semester). My grades are excellent 4.0. But in some universitys require you to take 3 (preferred 4) years of the same language. I’m taking Latin right now, but they don’t offer it at the public school… If I do go into the public school half way through the semester then I’m guessing I won’t be able to take it 3 years because I’ll have to switch. So I’m not sure what I should do. Any ideas?

I’m not familiar with your particular situation so use this information if you find it useful.

Get a copy of your schools Catalogue, get a copy of your transcripts (Official office records listing the classes you took and what grades received.) Counselors can help here especially.

Find out what the graduation requirements are and compare what you have taken, or will take, with what is required.

If you change schools, make sure that the new school accepts all the classes and credits you have already earned. They do not always do so. For instance if you move from one state to another, or from a public to a private school. Check it out first.

I would make an appoint with my counselor at the old school, gather the catalogue, transcripts, etc. Ask questions, ask alot of questions.

Then I would make an appointment to see a counselor at the new school. Show him or her the catalogue and transcripts from the old school. See what will or will not be accepted and what may be a new requirement.

I was a Catholic School teacher for five years. When any of my students transfered to a public school, the religion classes were not counted at all.

Each state has different requirements and some schools in one state may not accept certain classes from another state’s school system.

I think you should think about moving from Private to Public schools cautiously. My experience has been that Private schools are usualy much more disciplined and focused.

I hope some of this was helpful. I know its a mouthful.

If your public school is truely on the semester system, you can probably get away with taking 3 years worth of a language in less than two years. When I say truely, I mean that you change courses every fall and spring. In this system, I was able to finish 3 “years” worth of French within 3 semesters with the opportunity to take even more. (1 semester=1 year).
