If I understand you correctly, you need guidance on whether to continue to attend a college prep high school or transfer to a regular public school, where your class rank would undoubtedly be higher. If attending Texas A&M is a high priority for you, then you should transfer to a public school.

Secondly, 50% of 80 is 40, so why do you think that graduating #70 isn’t in the top 50%? Also, if you DO need to improve your class standing, you have three years in which to do it.
What should you do? Stop worrying about what college you may or may not get into and pay attention to being the best student you can now.
First, don’t settle for 70th out of 80 — no matter how “smart” the school, strive to be closer to the top. Second, contact A&M admissions and get the scoop on how they review applications from private schools such as yours — as a college professor I’m betting the “top 50%” is for public school applicants. Finally, don’t narrow your choices so stringently so early in your life — there are hundreds of GREAT colleges and universities in this country and you would be happy at many of them!
