If a “yes” to this question is the only reason you would be considered independent, then you must answer the question with a “no” because someone else is supporting you and the unborn child. You would include your parent information and you would include the unborn child as a member of the household size.
If you are already an independent student (24 or older, veteran, orphan, married or grad student) then you would answer “yes” to this question because you are already considered independent and thus supporting yourself and the child. You would, again, include the unborn child in the household size.

The answer is no until birth. Once you have had the child you can update the fafsa. However, your award and EFC are based on your prior years tax return therefore you will have to discuss the additional award if any once your child is born and for an upcoming semester. Most likely there will be little change until you’ve filed 07 taxes.

In most cases the answer to your question would be yes. A number of schools require a note from your doctor stating that the baby will be born during the school year and a signed statement from you saying that you will be supporting it over 50%.

I had to fill out the FAFSA when I was pregnant with my daughter and they told me to put yes if the child will be born during the year in which I will receive the financial aid I am applying for. I doesn’t matter how far along you are, if your child will be born before the end of July next year, put yes.

will you have had the child by the time you start classes? if so put yes if not put no… but I’m almost certain it only bases the amount you get on what you last income tax report says… and you obviously couldn’t claim a child you didn’t know you were having yet. For further clarification go to the financial aid office of your school.

That’s a toughie. I’d ask a school counselor or call in to speak with a representative. Technically you aren’t supporting the child yet so my guess would be no. But I could be wrong which is why you should speak to a counselor or a FAFSA rep.

no – your child doesn’t officially count until he/she is born. You would use the same numbers as appeared on your 2006 tax return.
