help will i be able to go to college?

Hi,

I live in Maryland and Im a junior in high school. I have a 3.5 overall GPA. I took couple of AP, GT, and Honor Classes, so my weighted GPA is like a 3. 9. I have done sports outside or school and a member of many clubs at school. The first time I took the SAT I got a 1530 which is really bad, plus I was 15. I really want to become an interior designer or an event planner. Which colleges should I be aiming for that are in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennyslvania, and New York.

You will definitely be able to go to college. You are still a junior, so you will have time to improve your SAT score, and that score was the FIRST time you took the SAT. It might have improved dramatically since then. Because I know mine did, in just weeks, and I didn’t really do anything but read, and study hard in school. Practice can make a difference.

I would try aiming for some safety, match, and reach schools. A match school may be Penn State (but that may become a safety if your SAT goes up) and you might also wanna try out for NYU, or University of Maryland. (my first choice, since I live in MD too, lol) Try going to princetonreview.com, go to counselor-o-matic, and type in your info. it will give you a list of colleges that may be right for you. hope this helps!

I suggest you purchase The Official SAT Study Guide formulated by College Board. It really helps to improve bad SAT scores. It goes into grave detail about each section before giving you very realistic practice tests. If you can raise your scores to around 1900-2000, which is more than possible, you can go just about anywhere. Colleges are always looking for qualified African Americans. I suggest UVA, UNC, UPenn, and John Hopkins. UVA and UNC are large state schools and UPenn and John Hopkins are private. Look them up and learn a little about their schools. Don’t worry about guidebook stats because URM status makes your case minutely less challenging.
