We are using time4learning. My 7 y/o son uses it as one of his core curriculum’s. We also use A Beka book.

My son loves T4L. He loves the way it presents the material. My only concern with T4L is the lack of drilling. Some things just need to be done a few times before it ‘sinks in’. A Beka is at the opposite end of the spectrum and drills the kids ‘to death’. So I select which items I feel he needs to do with A Beka(I figure you don’t have to do every problem on a worksheet). T4L has its printable resources that you can use too.

We use T4L to maintain interest in education and A Beka is used for enrichment. I also like A Beka for it’s Christan content.

I also like that the kids can work at whichever level is right for them with the way they have it set up to span 3 grade levels at once. I feel it is well worth the money. I like it because you can be anywhere and do lessons. We have a laptop for my son and a mobile broadband card…so off we go whenever we want to go.

I home schooled my oldest son. He was in JR High when we started.

He ended up taking his GED when he was 16. The GED pre test he scored so high that he was able to take the GED as soon as the 3 months cleared (They require a 3 month wait between Home school ending and taking the GED) He passed with very high scores. He start college this fall.

I have not had the experience of doing it through the lower grades and ages though. I think that it can work as long as the reasons are good for anting to do it. I also think that there needs to be paid special attention to play groups, meetings and trips with other home schoolers in the area with same age groups. Social skills are sometimes missed or left out and the child never gets the experience of making friends and learning the proper way to deal with socializing etc.

I think if the parents are willing to put the time and effort into it though it can be really great. With schools as over crowded as they are and the way things are now days I can not say I blame parents for wanting to home school.

I did find a great deal of resources on-line and through local groups as well.

There are many groups on-line that you can join many forums etc. Try doing a google search for your area and homeschooling. Also check with your local Church they may have some information for your area and can put you in touch with other Mother’s or groups that meet in the area.

I don’t use it as core curriculum, but I do use it for supplemental material for my second grader…umm third grader, lol

He absolutely loves it! It keeps him interested and it is really helping improve reading speed and comprehension. Every area that he “tutors” in T4L has improved.

I’m not sure if there is a difference in levels, but if what I am doing is what they use for their homeschooling program, then I think it would need supplemental materials, especially in the science and history.

But, I never looked at it for core, I only looked at it for supplemental material.

I love it, though.
