Good Hawaiian Surnames?
I’m writing a creative story, and I need a surname for a fictional hawaiian family. Any suggestions?

Many Hawaiian first and last names were based on a person’s traits, where they lived, where they worked, etc., so you can’t go wrong with something like:
Kekai (keh-KAI) – the sea
Kaikaika (kah-ee-KAI-kuh) – the strong
Kupa’a (koo-PA-uh) – loyal
Kamauna (ka-MOW-nuh) – the mountain
Kekaupua (keh-kow-POO-uh) – the billowing clouds
If you want to go with something a little longer, I’ve always liked the phrase describing the ocean between the individual Hawaiian islands – “The Eight Seas.” Here it is made into a name: Nakai’ewalu (NAH-kai-EH-vuh-loo)
