Anyone have any suggestions for a high school senior applying to pharmacy school in ’08? Any good reading materials? Perhaps studying some Latin? I’ll take any advice because I just want to be prepared and appear knowledgeable when I apply for a job at a pharmacy. I figured the job would look good on my resume for college. Helppp? =)

You need to be well-prepared to take calculus and lab science courses (e.g., biology, chemistry, etc). Most new high school graduates are not actually prepared for those courses, so you need to be well above average in those subjects, especially math. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying in college. College students only go to class about 15 or 16 hours per week, so you’ll have a lot of free time. But, you need to use that time wisely to study. Learning Latin isn’t really all that important. Sure, a lot of science terms are from Latin and Greek, but you can learn those individually, and you’ll pick up on roots, etc.
When you apply to work at a pharmacy, they aren’t going to care whether you know Latin or biochemistry. They will want to see your interest in the field, which you can demonstrate by saying you want to a pharmacist. And they will want to see you have the kind of personality that would be good with customers. Other than that, they want the same things are other employers, such as having a responsible person who shows up on time. And if they ask you interview questions about how well you work with others, don’t just say “great.” Give examples, such as any clubs you might have been in.
Pharmacy school is rough, but it’s a great career if you put in the work preparing.
