the axis of symetry is basically the x value of the vertex
x = -b / (2a)
standard form:
ax^2 + bx + c
x^2 + 5x – 7
a = 1
b = 5
c = -7
again, x = -b / (2a)
x = -(5) / (2 * 1)
x = -5/2
so the axis of symmetry is x = -5/2
