Ethnicity of College Apps?

I am half Hispanic and half white.

I consider myself to be spanish because I grew up around my mother’s family and that culture, however I have a white last name because of my father (eastern european).

What should I put down on my college apps?

Since you consider yourself hispanic, put that down.

Use the Hispanic because that is what you identify with. I have a white last name due to marriage but my heritage and maiden name are far from it. On college apps I hyphenated but usually your ethnicity only comes into play for financial aid and scholarships.

Also- It never hurts to call up admissions and ask! You don’t necessarily have to call the school of choice, just a local one if you may.

I would put both, because college admissions officers want to know all the types of ethnicities you are. If you consider yourself spanish, put that down but maybe you might want to consider putting other and elaborating by saying that you’re both hispanic and white

I’m same, half Hispanic and half White. I’m bicultural and bilingual. I’m in college and I check Hispanic for ethnicity, but my race is causasian or White. Colleges cannot discriminate agaisnt race or ethnic background because it violates the rights of the student/person. They’d be in BIG trouble is they did.

I would put down your Hispanic side. I know that for some minorities you have a better chance of getting in/get more opportunities because they want diversity. There’s more caucasian competition. Even if your heritage doesn’t help you, it can’t hurt either!

Definitely spanish, you will give you a leg up on getting into college. Many states want a certain quotas and in california affirmative action may be illegal. But trust me if gives you a leg up. Definitely.

In the 80’s my cousin, who is of the same ethnicity as you, received more financial aid because of this. I don’t know if this is still true or not.
