Econ or engineering major?
(BTW if I were to pick engineering, it would be chemical engineering.)

Of course, if you’re looking to eventually become a professor (which presumably means graduate school and a PhD), then really you should choose the major which most interests and excites you, the one which you would even do a little work on the side just because you are curious. The major which has those charactaristics to the largest extent is the one you should go for if you’re aiming to be a professor.
But about economists not changing the world, you should google the name John Nash.
Engineering can also be very business oriented. such as designing a new chemical to pollute the atmosphere.
