Dorm packing help?

What are some things that I should not forget to bring to my college apartment, besides the obvious objects?

I’ve been doing a lot on finding this out too! this is what I have so far.

besides your basics (bedding, clothes, toiletries)…

-Bath stuff

towels

robe

shower shoes

shower caddy (if you have a community bathroom)

-Dorm stuff

fridge/microwave (if allowed. talk with your roomie first!)

extra storage (boxes, bins, over door racks, & organizers)

trash can

printer and/or scanner

extension cords

power surge protectors

ironing board/ iron

electric tea kettle (make that ramen without the kitchen!)

bed clip lamp (late night studying!)

extra pillows or a “husband” pillow (more studying!)

phone/answering machine

a laptop lock (if you have a laptop)

a padlock (dorms just aren’t safe for valuables)

hangers

mattress pad (who knows who did what on that old bed)

fans (depends how cool it is, & how reliable their AC is)

-other stuff

laundry hamper (go w/ collapsible)

febreeze

cleaning supplies (if you have your own bathroom)

laundry soap

fabric softener

rolls of quarters

sewing kit

umbrella

water filter (cheaper than bottles, better than tap)

stereo/radio, TV, or game consoles.

headphones ( so you can still jam out while the roomie rests)

hope this helps 🙂

First, I would find out if your apartment is furnished or unfurnished. If it is furnished with a bed, it probably sucks. Make sure you bring a mattress pad and and egg crate (foam mattress topper). Also check to see if you need Twin or Twin XL.

Find out if you will need a floor lamp to light your bedroom and other rooms in the apartment. My college apt did not have overhead lighting.

If you are making food in the apartment, you will need tuperware and silverware. I’m sure your parents have an old set lying around.

Hope this helps

Bring homemade cookies, and offer them to neighbors. It’s a good way to make friends. Bring an umbrella, too.

here’s an article dealing with what you should bring/not bring in terms of stuff like minifridge, microwave, tv, fan, lighting, etc.
