Does San Jose State University has a good chemistry program??

I am planning to major in Chemistry or Biology( or pre-med in general) at San Jose State University. Do SJSU has a good chemistry program or biology program? I am planning to become a pharmacist. Will I have a higher acceptance rate to graduate school if I go to UC Davis instead? Has anyone here goes to SJSU and also doing pre-med and planning to transfer after 4 yrs? or anyone in the same situation? Can you give me some advices. I’m deciding between UC Davis and San Jose State. Thanks

San Jose State has a very good chemistry program. It is accredited by ACS (American Chemistry Society) (see http://www.acs.org/) and San Jose State also has a famous pharmacy club. It’s called International Pharmaceutical Student federation ( see http://www.ipsf.org/)

Even though UC is more prestigious, SJSU is not a bad choice at all. The tuition is way cheaper, the classes are smaller, the location is very strategies, and many other reasons.

Good luck man!

Med Schools will be looking at your academic performance, and then scale it slightly according to prestige. Another big factor is your MCAT.

Do not worry about the ranking, that will not greatly affect the admission officer’s decision.

However, I would like to point out that at UC Berkeley, about 13% of freshman that come in saying they want to be pre-med actually end up applying to a med school. So don’t put all your eggs into one little basket, look what else the school offers in terms of extra-curriculars and campus life, both on and off campus.

Finally, if financial burden is a big issue, that should take priority.

Good luck pursuing your degrees!
