simplify first:

numerator: -2x + 1 – 1. obviously, 1 and -1 cancel each other out. what remains: -2x

denominator: x^2 + y^2 + x + y – x – y. same thing here, you find that x and -x cancel each other out, and so does y and -y. what remains: x^2 + y^2.

this is probably its simplest form:

-2x

————-

x^2 + y^2

did you mean (-2x +1 -1)/(x^2-y^2+ x+y -x-y)?

if so the answer is -2x/(x^2-y^2)

1) get rid of extra info.- the stuff that cancels out

2) distributive property

3) cancel and reduce from the top and bottom
