Does anybody know what classes you have to take to become a?
certified nursing assistant? I want to be a nurse but I have been out of college since 1985. Do you have to take A&P and basic nursing?

there is a special class, then you take the state boards

To become a CNA you need to take some classes and pass a state test. My daughter is getting her CNA and is currently working in a nursing home…they have about 4 days of classes spread out over a few months and then take their exam. Some states require you to become a CNA before going on to LPN.
You might want to consider going to your local vo-tech to be a Licensed Practical Nurse. This is usually a one-year program. With an LPN many community colleges will accept you into an accelerated program to get your A.S. as a registered nurse.
Contact your school district to find out if your vo-tech has a CNA or LPN program and the requirements because they vary state by state. Also check with local nursing homes to see if they will pay for your training while you work for them or if they offer an in-house CNA program.

no. You don’t have to have any formal education. There are community classes that are about 4-5 weeks long that prepare you for passing the state exam. Most states require you to be certified. Look around in your community. I took my “classes” at the home of a nurse who gave them.

As requirements change periodically, it would probably be best to speak to an advisor at your local community college. You should also probably apply for admission as soon as possible as the nursing slots fill up rather quickly. If you would like the most current and accurate information, then speak with an advisor.

My high school had a one year course to become a CNA..so you could imagine how simple it is..junior colleges offers certified one year programs…it might take you even less.
