doctor of nursing practice degree?

what does anyone think of NPs being required to have a doctorate degree by the year 2015? Will it increase the prestige? pay? Will society view NPs any differently?

I have not heard about this. But i think this is going to be a interesting transition. I don’t think the pay will change otherwise other profession will ask for more, such as RNs. I think doctors are going to be against it…a lot of physicians already don’t like the fact that NPs can have their own practice and now they are allowed to be called “doctors”, because of their doctorate degree.

Personally I think it will make them look more prestige though…i mean i’m in school to become a Physician assistant..and since there are NP vs. PA stuff everywhere..maybe finally there will be a distinction between both professions. But then again if NP ask for more money, hospitals will probably hire PAs over NPs because it will be cheaper to do so. But in the long run, it’s a good move for nursing.
